From the Archives: Fort Lee's Babe's Taxi Founder Honored at Fort Lee Museum Dedication

The Fort Lee Historical Society formally dedicated our Fort Lee Museum meeting room to the late legendary Fort Lee ballplayer and Babe's Taxi founder / owner Babe Maisano this past Tuesday. This room includes the original Fort Lee Athletic Club sign donated to the museum by the Fort Lee AC. Left to right in photo are Fort Lee Historical Society Vice President Lou Azzollini, FLHS Secretary Tom Meyers, FLHS President Donna Brennan, Bill Maisano (Babe's son) , Debbi Maisano Dunne (Babe's daughter) , Michael Anthony Maisano (Babe's Grandson) and Jay Dunne (Babe's son-in-law), and Fort Lee Councilman and FLHS member Harvey Sohmer - photo courtesy of Fort Lee Historical Society.

Babe Maisano as a young man, in October of 1931, greeted legendary New York Yankee players Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig as they started their 1931 barnstorming tour in Fort Lee at the Fort Lee Athletic Club on Lemoine Avenue.  Later that day Babe Maisano and other young Fort Lee ballplayers played a game of ball with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

The Fort Lee Historical Society in 2014 will lobby the Fort Lee Board of Education and the Fort Lee High School to have the Fort Lee High School baseball field named after this legendary Fort Lee High School graduate and ball player Babe Maisano.
