Prosecutor: Police Find Sex Offender With Boy, 15, at Fort Lee Motel

Authorities have charged a 51-year-old sex offender with abusing a 15-year-old boy after Fort Lee police found the two together at a borough motel, the Bergen County prosecutor said Tuesday.

A Fort Lee police officer spotted Jayme Shannon, of East Brunswick, going into a room at the Skyview Motel Monday with the teen, according to Prosecutor John L. Molinelli. The officer found Shannon’s name from the room registration and discovered he was wanted on an unrelated warrant.

An investigation by borough police and the prosecutor’s special victims squad revealed Shannon “engaged the minor in sexual relations,” Molinelli said in a statement.

Shannon was charged with sexual assault and child endangerment. He was being held on $275,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail, with no ten percent option.

Molinelli described the teen as an “acquaintance” of Shannon. Authorities did not immediately release details on the warrant arrest, but jail records show it was issued out of Somerset County.

Federal court documents show Shannon was previously convicted on charges of traveling across state lines to have sex with a minor.
