Whiz Kid: Fort Lee High's Megan Gimson

A girl who has played four sports during her high school career is known just as much for her schoolwork.

The competitive drive has been described by a number of our Fort Lee Patch Whiz Kids this year, but high school student athlete Megan Gimson may be taking that notion to a new level. The junior, who plays three sports during the school year, can often be seen with books in her hands, and then moments later can be playing either volleyball, basketball or softball for the Lady Bridgemen. “Ever since I was younger, I always wanted to do well. I have to do well,” Gimson said confidently of her schoolwork. “It’s just instilled in my brain…it is like messing up in a game, if you could have done better. You just want to do your best and whatever I do, I always try to do my best.” Megan is often seen working on both school and sports just moments …

Season in Review: Fort Lee Bowling

Daniels represents team in sections and both teams come close to coach's expectations.

With all winter sports seasons having concluded, Fort Lee Patch now takes an in-depth look at how each team fared over the past few months. With the second of five installments, the season in review segment continues with the story of the 2010-2011 Fort Lee bowling team. Before the season started, head coach Dennis Sayer knew that there would be some open spots in his starting lineup due to gradation and other factors, but he also knew that two of those positions would be secured by his returning seniors. Captains Yeliz Inalman and David Daniels were both back for another season on the Fort Lee bowling team this year and Sayer looked to these two for guidance throughout the year. Athlete of the Week: Basketball Player Dashaun Washington

The baby-faced freshman is a star in the making.

Freshman year of high school is a unique time for all boys and girls. It is a time to be nervous yet anxious, excited and worried, but most of all, high school comes with uncertainty. Today, Patch’s Athlete of the Week award is presented to a freshman who is making a name for himself on the hardwood. Against players twice his size and some even four years older than him, guard Dashaun Washington looks overmatched. But on the basketball floor, he is matching up just fine. Washington has been “playing up” since his time in the Fort Lee rec program where he was a younger athlete already playing with 7th and 8th graders. This season it happened again.
