The deadline for filling a vacancy isn’t until Sept. 13, county officials say. And while Republican Peter B. Campbell is likely to bow out of the race, Fort Lee Council candidate Thomas Bennett says he’s “in it to the end.”
If the top Republican vote getter in Tuesday’s primary election bows out of the race for Fort Lee Borough Council, as he has said is his intention, the party has until September to fill the vacancy, an official with the Bergen County Election Division said. Republican candidates Peter B. Campbell and Thomas Bennett received more votes Tuesday—Campbell had one more vote than Bennett—than Rossana Surace, whose name was added to the ballot after Campbell and Bennett filed to run together. On the day before the election, Campbell told Patch that if he were to win, he would likely drop out of the race, and that if Surace won, he would gladly endorse her. “Nobody stepped up to run for that seat at the time of the deadline for filing so I put my …

There are three names on the Primary election ballot for Fort Lee Borough Council for two nominations on the Republican ticket. But Peter B. Campbell says that if he wins, he will probably bow out, and that if Rosanna Surace wins, he will endorse her.
Tuesday is Primary election day, and Fort Lee voters will go to the polls to choose their party’s nominees for Borough Council. On the Democratic side, there really is no race in the municipal election. There are two three-year seats being contested in this year’s election, and incumbent Fort Lee Councilmen Joseph Cervieri, Jr. and Harvey Sohmer are the only two names on the primary ballot. However the local Republican race is a little more complicated. The ballot has three names: Thomas Bennett and Peter B. Campbell, who are running together, and Rossana Surace, who is running alone. Campbell though says that if he wins on Tuesday, he’s likely to drop out of the race, and that if Surace were to win, he would gladly endorse her. “My name …

Republicans Keith Jensen and John Aslanian say lawmakers should focus on tax relief and called the new law “meddlesome” and “oppressive.”
District 37 Republican Assembly candidates John Aslanian and Keith Jensen said Friday that if they are elected, they intend to support legislation suspending New Jersey’s anti-bullying law, calling it “oppressive,” and saying legislators should focus on tax relief instead. The anti-bullying law, sponsored by their Democratic opponent, Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-37), went into effect statewide at the beginning of the current school year, but the two Republicans say it “has turned into a bureaucratic and legal nightmare for administrators, teachers, parents and students.” Aslanian said in a statement that the law is a “financial drain on schools.” ‘The bill is eating into school curriculum time and staff time,” he said. “Our …

The Fort Lee BOE recently passed "fair distribution of state aid for education" resolution at the behest of District 37 State Assembly candidate Keith Jensen of Fort Lee
When the Fort Lee Board of Education passed a resolution on Monday, Sept. 26, supporting “fair distribution of state aid for education,” the board joined the Tenafly School District in supporting a plan District 37 Republican General Assembly candidates Keith Jensen of Fort Lee and John Aslanian of Englewood Cliffs have staunchly advocated for and made one of the major issues of their campaign for state office. Although the Fort Lee BOE’s resolution does not mention the “Fair School Funding” plan by name, the wording of the resolution is much the same as that of legislation authored by State Sen. Michael Doherty, (R-23) that would “provide an equal amount of school aid for every student in New Jersey, regardless of where they reside,” …
