Luring Attempt of 10-Year-Old Girl in Inwood Terrace Park Reported

An unknown man asked a 10-year-old girl to get into his car to help him look for his dog, according to Fort Lee police.

An unknown man in a dark blue sedan attempted to lure a 10-year-old girl at Inwood Terrace Park on Monday by asking her to get into the vehicle and help him look for his dog, Detective Sergeant Ken Porrino said. The incident occured on Monday Oct 22, around 6 p.m., but was reported by the girl to Fort Lee police on Friday, Porrino said. This incident follows a string of luring reports, which have put Bergen County parents and police on edge. The 10-year-old was playing with her friends and momentarily walked away from her friends while in the park. Luring Attempts Put Bergen County On Edge as Halloween Approaches

Some Bergen County police chiefs are issuing Mischief Night and Halloween curfews following more than a dozen recent luring attempts in the county.

More than a dozen attempted child lurings in Bergen County over the past weeks have police on heightened alert less than a week before thousands of children will take to the streets on Halloween. In New Milford, Police Chief Frank Papapietro has issued an 8 p.m. curfew on Halloween and the evening before, and he is calling on other police chiefs to follow suit. Fort Lee police confirmed Thursday they have a suspect in the case of a man who allegedly offered two children $5 and then a ride in his car in an apparent abduction attempt Wednesday morning near the intersection of Anderson Ave. and North Ave. in Fort Lee. But it's not clear whether he will be charged. The incident occurred at about 7:39 a.m. Wednesday, when the brother and sister, fourth- and first-graders at School No. 1, were on their way to school, police said.
