Fort Lee Football Team Battles Powerhouse, Loses By One

It was senior night Friday in Fort Lee, and the Bridgemen varsity football team put up a real fight against undefeated River Dell, losing by the narrowest possible margin, 36-35.

The 2-7 Fort Lee Bridgemen football team lost to undefeated River Dell (9-0) by just one point Friday night. The final score was 36-35. Below is a summary of the exciting game as seen through the eyes of Jr. Bridgemen head football coach Christopher DePalma: In the aftermath that was Hurricane Sandy that crippled our area, important to parents of players and cheerleaders was a football game that took place Friday night at Lewis F. Cole Middle School. This was senior night, a time for the parents of players and cheerleaders to walk their children onto the field for their last home game. Their next game was more of the same! Friday night FLHS lost to Parsippany by one point in overtime. Parsippany scored a touchdown first in overtime and elected to kick the extra point. Fort Lee Boys Basketball Players Surprise Coach Surprise Coach with Video Tribute

An already special night for the Bridgemen basketball team became even more special for Coach "Z."

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, the Fort Lee Bridgemen basketball team was already anticipating a special night at Fort Lee High School. It was senior night and a big game against Tenafly, but a certain surprise for head coach John Ziemba added to the magic of the night. After the JV game, the team brought coach Ziemba into a classroom; he was told that he was going to be watching a video made for the seniors. Instead, it was a video honoring his own 300th win as a coach, which cam back in early January.  “He just kept saying while we were watching, ‘Where did you get this stuff?’" said assistant coach James Puliatte. “The video included certificates from his freshmen year of high school basketball, clips of his college career, newspaper articles …
