Bergen Prosecutor Forms School Security Task Force

More than 160 schools across Bergen County slated for security reviews, prosecutor says.

Officials are set to inspect more than 160 Bergen County schools in an expanded security initiative formed after the Newtown elementary school massacre, the county prosecutor announced Monday. Under a newly formed county task force, police chiefs in towns that requested the safety reviews will designate a police liaison to receive training from the prosecutor’s office and work with school officials to develop a security plan, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.  “This task force system will create a permanent security environment whereby local schools will have a greater access to information and assistance in their efforts to keep our schools safe,” Molinelli said in a statement. Panel Says Fort Lee Prepared For Any Emergency; Superintendent a No-Show

Town Hall meeting partnered parents with emergency services, elected officials and members of the Board of Ed to discuss school safety.

Nearly 100 residents and parents filled the second floor meeting room at the Fort Lee Community Center during Wednesday's Town Hall meeting to discuss the safety and security of Fort Lee schools. The meeting, a response to the tragic events that happened in Newtown, Connecticut, was a collaborative effort between the Mayor and Council, emergency services and the Board of Education. The panel included: Mayor Mark Sokolich was the evening's moderator. Town Hall Meeting on School Safety

Joint meeting between the Mayor and Council and the Board of Education to discuss school safety with the community.

The Mayor and Council and Board of Education are sponsoring an open Town Hall Meeting Wednesday, Feb. 13, to discuss the current safety measures in place and initiatives to be implemented concerning the safety of the Borough's children. The meeting will take place in the second floor meeting room in the Fort Lee Community Center at 7 pm. This Town Hall Meeting is open to all residents. During the meeting, residents will be provided with information concerning safety programs and initiatives developed by the Borough and the Board of Education to be implemented in the immediate future. Fort Lee Interim Super Assures Parents, Urges Cooperation After CT Shooting

Fort Lee police officers will be on patrol at local schools over the next several days, according to a Dr. Sharon Amato, who posted a letter on the school district’s website Saturday after the deadly shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

Fort Lee’s Interim Superintendent of Schools issued a statement on the school district’s website, assuring parents and members of the school community that schools officials and the Fort Lee Police Department are doing “everything possible to secure our buildings and protect our children” in light of the tragic events in Newtown, Conn. Friday, where a school shooting claimed the lives of 26 people, including 20 children. “This is a harsh reminder of our vulnerability and a reminder that we must remain vigilant in safeguarding our children and staff,” Dr. Sharon Amato said in the statement.
