Feature on Fort Lee's "Buddy Program" to air twice more in June.
The NJTV Classroom Close-up segment profiling Fort Lee School 4's innovative "Buddy Program" will air two more times. The Buddy Program pairs sixth-graders with kindergartners to help them adjust to the new experience of school. Students meet monthly to jointly work on projects. Older students keep a journal on the experience, while kindergartners relay they thoughts with pictures. Since the program got off the ground six years ago, discplinary issues with sixth-graders has dropped measurably, School 4 guidance counselor Nancy Sanders told Patch in January. School 4 Buddy system the focus on NJTV's Classroom Close-up to air in May.
The Buddy Program at Fort Lee's School 4 is set to be the spotlight of a segment on NJTV's Classroom Close-up to air May 5th. The Buddy Program, now in its sixth year, pairs sixth-graders with Kindergartners to help them adjust to the transition of being in the school. In return, the sixth-graders are given a sense of responsibility. According to Kindergarten teacher Rita Ranieri, the program creates a strong bond between the students. "Whenever they see eachother in the hallway, or in the lunch room, there's an immediate connection," Ranieri said. Fort Lee native Paul Mandala has been an avid hiker and long distance cyclist for years, but when a friend signed up for his first Ironman, Mandala could not resist the challenge.
After hiking through the Appalachian Mountains last year from June 7 through Oct. 2, Fort Lee native Paul Mandala decided he was ready to set his sights on a new challenge, the Ironman U.S. Championship on Aug 11.
