Before Sandy, There Was Red Ribbon Week at Fort Lee Middle School

Fort Lee students, members of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) took part in activities around the national theme, “The Best Me is Drug Free.” Those activities included the formation of a “human red ribbon.”

Before Sandy wreaked havoc in Fort Lee and across the region, there was Red Ribbon Week at Lewis F. Cole Middle School. Daily themes and activities included a “human red ribbon” formation on the middle school’s athletic field to promote Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), according to middle school SADD advisor Stefanie Yundi. “We want our students to make the right choices as they become teenagers and not be peer pressured into drugs or alcohol,” Yundi said. “We want them to be strong individuals by making the right decisions along the way.” Students and staff participated throughout the event and encouraged student participation. Students Form Giant Red Ribbon For Drug and Alcohol Awareness

“Red Ribbon Week” at the middle school ended Friday on the football field on Stillwell Ave.

Students at Lewis F. Cole Middle School marked the culmination of “Red Ribbon Week” Friday—a week dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse—by dressing in red and forming a giant red ribbon on the football field adjacent to the school. Each day this week was dedicated to a different theme; organizers at the school turned it into a competition as well by awarding points to classes with the highest participation to be applied toward Field Day activities at the end of the school year. Fort Lee High School C.A.R.E.S

“Week of Respect” wraps up Friday at the high school but is just the beginning of a month of programs aimed at fostering a sense of community and awareness

Friday marks the end of Fort Lee High School’s first ever “Week of Respect,” a state-mandated program under New Jersey’s new anti-bullying law in which public schools statewide are teaching harassment, intimidation and bullying (HIB) awareness and prevention. The week is part of a larger program taking place throughout the month at Fort Lee High School called “Creating an Atmosphere of Respect and Environment for Success,” or C.A.R.E.S., during which each week in October is dedicated to a different theme related to fostering a sense of community and educating “the whole student,” according to Fort Lee School Counseling Service Director Jamie Ciofalo. “It’s more than what we’re doing with the college planning,” Ciofalo said. “The academic …
