Fort Lee Police Seek Route 4 Gas Station Robber

The incident, in which a man brandished a handgun and demanded cash from the register after asking for a pack of cigarettes, occurred just after 1:30 a.m. Monday at an Exxon station on Route 4, police say.

Fort Lee police are searching for a man they say swiped $700 from a local gas station and mini-mart early Monday morning after asking the attendant for a pack of cigarettes and then pointing a gun at him and demanding cash from the register. Fort Lee police received a called just after 1:30 a.m. Monday that an armed robbery had just taken place at the Exxon station at 2338 Route 4, police said. When police arrived at the scene, the gas station attendant told them a black male wearing a green hooded sweatshirt entered the mini-mart, asked for a pack of Newport cigarettes and pointed a small silver handgun at him as he was reaching to get him the cigarettes, police said. I am glad god no 1 was injured in the incident. 40 years ago I was the graveyard shift at the Esso station at that location. Unfortunately some things don't change.   more ›
