Gov. Christie and President Obama Express Disappointment Over Delay in Sandy Aid

Vote on a $60.4 billion aid package delayed in Congress.

Gov. Chris Christie and President Barack Obama released statements Wednesday expressing disappointment over the failure of the House of Representatives to vote on the $60.4 billion Hurricane Sandy Aid Package and urged Congress to make the bill a priority when it reconvenes Thursday.  Though the U.S. Senate approved the bill Friday, Congress failed to act on the bill, at different times criticising the allocation of some of its funding, considering splitting the aid package into separate bills, and putting it off until a deal was reached on the impending "fiscal cliff."  Eventually, the decision was made to table it until the New Year. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo called on the agency to scale back its plans in a joint letter to the Port Authority’s board president and vice president Thursday. Following the two governors’ lead, the Port Authority’s revised toll and fare increases approved Friday are as follows: Tolls for trucks will also increase at a lesser rate than previously proposed. The agency’s now $25.1 billion, 10…

Not for me! They also moved PEAK HOURS to 10:00 am from 9:00 am. Therefore the increase for me and thousands of others is $3.50 or 59%. Nice how they slipped that one by. Why did no one in the press catch this? It is great that they are now creating 131,000 jobs. It probably would have been cheaper for all of us if they simply paid the construction workers to stay home. At least I wouldn't have …   more ›
