Attorneys for Liam Eisenberg claim cops went on food run, ignoring cries from teens who were locked inside police van.
Jeffrey R. Youngman and Frederick E. Gerson, attorneys for Liam Eisenberg, allege that two Fort Lee police officers took the van to get takeout at Wendy's and another food establishment, possibly a diner, while their client and four other teenagers were locked inside. "Our client claims that at about 1 a.m., two Fort Lee police officers came out of headquarters, got into the van and drove to Wendy's, and to possibly a diner, to get take out food," Youngman told Patch. "They arrived back at headquarters at approximately 1:35 a.m. with the food." A second Fort Lee teen, Liam Eisenberg, who was among five minors left locked in a police transport van outside the Fort Lee Police Department in March 2011, has filed a civil suit in U.S. District Court against the borough, the police department and twelve police officers. The suit claims a violation of federal civil rights laws, negligence, excessive force, false imprisonment, infliction of emotional distress, negligent supervision, negligent hiring and retention and failure to implement appropriate policies. The plaintiff's parents, Martin Eisenberg and Nancy Dougherty, are also named plaintiffs claiming psychological injury due to negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Fort Lee Police charge four men with possession of marijuana and intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school.
Police Chief Keith Bendul announced the arrest of four 18-year old men from Clifton in the McDonald's parking lot on Lemoine Avenue in Fort Lee on March 12. Tyquan Lee, Bobby Berry, Otis Williams and Blair Thornton were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Bendul said. Fort Lee's Advisory Committee for the Disabled met with local officials Wednesday to discuss emergency preparedness for those members of the community with special needs. Moderated by Chairwoman Bobbi Wailes and Council Liason Harvey Sohmer, the meeting served as an outreach campaign to solicit input and ideas on how to encourage community participation and involvement in preparedness for emergencies at the local level, and how first responders can effectively assist those with disabilities. Fort Lee Police arrested a man Friday in connection with alleged drug and weapons possession Friday at the Gulf Gas Station on Bergen Boulevard south, authorities said. According to police, Edward Rosario, 23, of the Bronx, was arrested and charged with two counts possession of handgun, possession of hollow nose bullets, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon while committing a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) crime, possession of heroin with intent to distribute within a public park and within a school zone, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, and numerous motor vehicle summonses. Fort Lee police arrested two men Thursday in connection with an alleged marijuana sale on Route 46 in Fort Lee, authorities said. According to police, Anthony K. Fuentes, 20, and Luis A. Diaz, 24, both of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. At approximately 1 a.m., Fort Lee Emergency Services Unit Police Officer Jay Makroulakis and Patrol Officer Anthony Bozzetti stopped a Nissan Rogue with Pennsylvania plates as it pulled out of the BP Gas Station on Route 46 south, police said. I don't think we have all the facts here. How do we know that the parents didn't call?Maybe they did and the police desk officer told them the kids weren't there. Since many of these officers seemed to be ignorant of the fact that kids were locked in the van outside all night!   more ›
