Rahway Native, War Veteran, 13-Year Fort Lee Police Veteran Honored

Detective Robert Tilton, who currently serves in the Fort Lee Police Department’s General Investigations Bureau, is the “Chief’s Award” recipient for December, police announced.

The following article was submitted to Patch for publication by the Fort Lee Police Department: Detective Robert Tilton, a 13-year veteran of the Fort Lee Police Department, has been chosen as the Chief’s Award recipient for the month of December. Since taking over the duties of Fort Lee Police Chief in 2004, Chief Thomas Ripoli has instituted the department awards ceremony, which honors Fort Lee’s finest for their actions in the line of duty. Tilton grew up in Rahway and attended Union Catholic High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1987, serving in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He received an Honorable Discharge after five years of service.  Upon leaving the Air Force, Det. There, organizers say, a candlelight vigil is planned for the victims, families and community members of Newtown, Conn., where the second deadliest school shooting in U.S. history occurred Friday, resulting in the deaths of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Fort Lee Police Honor Those Who Serve

At the 9th annual Merit Awards Ceremony Thursday, Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas Ripoli paid tribute to all those who serve the community.

The Fort Lee Police Department held its 9th annual Merit Board ceremony Thursday in Borough Hall’s council chambers, honoring their own for heroic deeds over the past year, as well as those of civilian members of the department, members and heads of other Borough departments and the public. In his opening remarks, Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas Ripoli said, "This being my ninth and final Merit Awards Ceremony, I hope that this tradition is carried on." Ripoli called the annual ceremony “an important event” and a “morale-booster for the rank and file.” Ripoli, who will be retiring at the end of the year due to New Jersey's mandatory retirement for Police Chiefs at 65, is the longest tenured police officer in Fort Lee history with 41 years of …

Fort Lee Detective, Member of Honor Guard, Athlete Honored by Chief

Detective Michele Morgenstern, who has been with the Fort Lee Police Department for more than 11 years, is the “Chief’s Award” recipient for October, police announced.

Police Chief Emphasizes Pedestrian Safety As Kids Return To School

In a statement released Wednesday, Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas O. Ripoli urged parents to speak to their children about crossing the street safely and motorists to use extra caution with kids going back to school on Monday.

Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas O. Ripoli issued a statement Wednesday urging parents and motorists to be extra cautious with students returning to school next week. Ripoli, noting a continued problem with accidents involving pedestrians over the summer, said 43 of the borough’s intersections will be manned by crossing guards, and that parents should talk to their children about how to cross the street safely. Ripoli said parents should emphasize to their kids that they need to look out for cars before crossing even though, by law, pedestrians have the right of way. He also said drivers should exercise even greater caution and be on the lookout for pedestrians, especially near schools. “I want to make sure everyone gets to their destination …

Police Chief Talks Pros, Cons of Red Light Cameras

The state announced Tuesday it was ordering 21 municipalities to suspend red light camera programs. Fort Lee Police Chief discussed a wide range of issues as the special guest speaker at the Fort Lee GOP’s monthly meeting.

Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas Ripoli says there are “negatives and positives” to red light camera enforcement programs, and that he’ll go along with what the Fort Lee Mayor and Council decides when it comes to the question of whether to institute such a program in the borough. Police Chief Urges Pedestrians to Use Extra Caution, Citing Recent Accidents

Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas O. Ripoli issued a statement to Fort Lee residents regarding pedestrian safety.

In light of a recent increase in motor vehicle accidents involving pedestrians in the borough, Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas O. Ripoli issued a statement to residents Tuesday urging them to take proper safety precautions “while navigating our streets.” Ripoli’s message comes in part in response to two serious accidents this week alone—one on Edwin Avenue, and one on Lemoine Avenue at Whiteman Street. “Simple practices adopted by those on foot can significantly decrease the chance of being involved in an accident,” Ripoli says in the statement.
