With Help from Fort Lee Police, Baby Arrives in Time for Lunch

Fort Lee Police Officer Brett Howard delivers a baby boy on Main Street.

Patrolman Brett Howard was on a routine traffic detail at Main and William when he heard the sounds of a woman screaming on Friday. At 12:46 p.m. on Feb. 15, Howard responded to the cries of Ekaterina Ortiz in the courtyard of 431 Main Street, arriving to find her in active labor. Requesting an ambulance, Howard and Ortiz's husband, Jeffrey, assisted Ortiz into the house where she gave birth to an 8 lb., 4 oz. baby boy--Nicholas.   Also responding to the scene were officers Kevin Kosuda, Chris Richter and the Fort Lee Ambulance Corps. Fort Lee Couple Hit By Car on Eve of Holiday Weekend

Police say the two pedestrians were crossing in the crosswalk near Monument Park on Palisade Avenue when they were struck by a car making a left turn in broad daylight. The driver was charged.

A Fort Lee husband and wife were hit by a car Friday afternoon as they were crossing the street at what would seem like the relatively safe intersection of Palisade Avenue and Angioletti Place, police said. The 63-year-old man and his 58-year-old wife were on the It’s Greek to Me side of Palisade at about 4:25 p.m. on Friday, May 25, when they began crossing the street in the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection toward the corner of Monument Park, according to Capt. Timothy Ford of the Fort Lee Police Department. “It’s like a ‘T’ intersection; you’ve got Angioletti Place coming into Palisade Avenue there,” Ford said. “The vehicle was coming west on Angioletti and making a left turn to proceed south on Palisade. As it did so, it …

Another Pedestrian Struck At Busy Intersection

Police urge pedestrians and drivers to be more attentive of their surroundings as the number of accidents in 2012 continue to climb.

A seventy-year old woman was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday as she attempted to cross Fletcher Avenue towards the Linwood Plaza Mall in Fort Lee at approximately 8:37a.m., Tuesday. Kyong Clark, a Fort Lee resident, was walking within the marked crosswalk when 42-year old Peter Gallo from Englewood Cliffs hit her as he was making the left turn out of the plaza onto Fletcher Avenue heading north. According to the police report, Gallo did not see Clark.  Fort Lee Police Capt. Roy Bortolus said it was the second accident at the same intersection in a week, making it the fourth pedestrian accidently struck in the Borough since February. “There’s a light there and a ‘Don’t Walk’ [pedestrian] sign with the count down numbers, but sometimes people…

A lot of good comments. In general, Abbott Blvd is a risk to run, walk and bike for various reasons: 1) walkers don't pay attention (looking at cell phones, etc) and don't always walk against traffic (and as noted, should use the sidewalks) 2) many cyclists don't ride with traffic 3) cars continuously speed along the Blvd and also cross it without stopping. I walk my dog (and cleanup after him) …   more ›

Emergency Responders Rescue Woman Who Fell Off Rocks at Ross Dock

Firefighters also performed a “door pop” in an unrelated incident after a two-car accident; both women sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Fort Lee emergency responders rescued a woman Wednesday afternoon after she fell off the rocks near the Hudson River at the Ross Dock picnic area, and shortly thereafter Fort Lee firefighters performed a “door pop,” rescuing another woman trapped in the passenger seat of a car after a two-vehicle accident at Route 5 and Palisade Avenue in Fort Lee, authorities said. Both women were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. “A lady was taking pictures down there [on a path running along the water near the playground at the Ross Dock Picnic area] and was either in a tree or leaning against a tree, fell off and landed on the rocks by the water, luckily at low tide,” said now Fort Lee Fire Chief Keith Sabatino. “Luckily she …
