In an effort to raise awareness, the Fort Lee Police Department is hosting a pedestrian safety seminar to offer information and life saving tips.
As part of their "Be Seen, Be Safe" pedestrian safety campaign, the Fort Lee Police Department is hosting a Pedestrian Safety Seminar for all residents, regardless of age, at the Fort Lee Community Center on Wednesday, March 27 at 7p.m. "I encourage all residents to attend to hear life saving tips," Chief of Police Keith Bendul said. This seminar is one in a series of seminars that the police department is bringing to the community to help raise awareness and promote pedestrian safety. The Fort Lee Police Department hits the streets to raise awareness on pedestrian safety.
Police Chief Keith Bendul wants to get to "zero" struck pedestrians in Fort Lee. In order to help the borough reach that goal the Fort Lee Police Department, with the full support of the Mayor and Council, have launched the “Be Seen, Be Safe” Pedestrian Safety Campaign. Mayor Mark Sokolich joined Bendul early Thursday morning to initiate the program on Palisade Avenue and Horizon Road. Together they and police officer Anthony Kim handed out safety information, car ice scrapers, florescent umbrellas, clip on reflectors and more to drivers and pedestrians. Fort Lee Police are going out into the community to stress pedestrian safety, with the support of the Mayor and Council.
Chief of Police Keith Bendul recently spoke to the Main Street Club at the Fort Lee Senior Center about pedestrian safety. Bendul, noting the continued problem with accidents involving pedestrians over the course of the past year, talked to the seniors about the need for awareness and crossing the street safely. Bendul has discussed initiatives to help raise awareness on pedestrian safety, such as distributing reusable bags and other items outfitted with reflective tape that will help make pedestrians visible to drivers at night. With no reported power outages, or emergencies, Fort Lee fared well.
Chief of Police Keith Bendul, said that with no storm-related power outages or emergencies, Fort Lee weathered the storm well. Despite the National Weather Service's pre-storm forecast of heavy winds, and PSEG advisories that storm-related outages may occur, Bendul said, "There were no heavy winds that brought down trees or caused limbs to fall taking power lines down." Bedul commended all emergency services workers and the DPW who worked during the storm to keep Fort Lee and its residents safe. He reported that the DPW worked throughout the night removing snow from Fort Lee's streets and salting the roadways. Driver charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury and hindering apprehension.
Chief of Police Keith Bendul has reported that a pedestrian was struck outside of the Colony apartment building located on Palisade Ave., Saturday, Jan. 26 at approximately 11:30pm. Julian Curatola, 23, of Fort Lee, was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in serious bodily injury. According to Bendul, Curatola backed into a 65-year old woman who was walking in the parking lot, brought her into the lobby of the Colony and told the doorman she had fallen and needed an ambulance. He then fled the scene. When Fort Lee Police were contacted that the woman was going to be admitted to Englewood Hospital with a serious head injury, a joint investigation ensued with the …

Fort Lee man arrested and held on $1 million bond for allegedly assaulting a four-month-old.
The Fort Lee Police Department arrested Jishi Yu, 39, of Fort Lee Thursday for the alleged physical assault of a four-month-old child and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child, Police Chief Keith Bendul reported. According to Bendul, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victim's Unit contacted Fort Lee detectives after they were informed that a four-month-old child was admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center on Jan. 22 with serious internal head injuries. An investigation by the Fort Lee Police Department's General Investigation Bureau and the Prosecutor's Office Special Victim's Unit resulted in the arrest of Yu, Bendul said.
