Rahway Native, War Veteran, 13-Year Fort Lee Police Veteran Honored

Detective Robert Tilton, who currently serves in the Fort Lee Police Department’s General Investigations Bureau, is the “Chief’s Award” recipient for December, police announced.

The following article was submitted to Patch for publication by the Fort Lee Police Department: Detective Robert Tilton, a 13-year veteran of the Fort Lee Police Department, has been chosen as the Chief’s Award recipient for the month of December. Since taking over the duties of Fort Lee Police Chief in 2004, Chief Thomas Ripoli has instituted the department awards ceremony, which honors Fort Lee’s finest for their actions in the line of duty. Tilton grew up in Rahway and attended Union Catholic High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1987, serving in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He received an Honorable Discharge after five years of service.  Upon leaving the Air Force, Det. Police Officer Kevin Kosuda, who has been with the Fort Lee Police Department 19 years, is the “Chief’s Award” recipient for November, police announced.

Police Officer Theron Kelly, a 19-year veteran of the Fort Lee Police Department, is the “Chief’s Award” recipient for July, police announced. A Newark native, Kelly has served in the patrol division for most of his career.

Veteran Police Officer, Product of Fort Lee School System Honored by Chief

Police Officer Patrick Kellett, a 22-year veteran of the Fort Lee Police Department, is the “Chief’s Award” recipient for June, police announced. A Brooklyn native, Kellett moved to Fort Lee in 1977, attending local public schools through high school.

Fort Lee Police Lt. Robert Zevits, a 22-year veteran of the police department and a Fort Lee native, has been named the “Chief’s Award” recipient for the month of March, Police Chief Thomas O. Ripoli announced this week. “Lt. Zevits comes from a long lineage of a service-oriented family,” police said in a statement announcing the honor. “His father, the late Lt. Joseph Zevits, retired from the Fort Lee Police Department in 1985 with over 32 years of service to the borough. His oldest brother, Ret. Capt.
