Bogota Band Earns Top Honors at ‘Battle’ of High School Bands

Doomsday Diaries takes home the $500 top prize at the event sponsored annually by the Fort Lee Film Commission. This year, a $250 second prize was offered thanks to the local Wendy’s.

The Fort Lee Film Commission hosted its eighth annual “Battle of the High School Bands” at the Fort Lee Community Center Friday, and the winner was a band from Bogota called Doomsday Diaries. “This year our Community Center staff was able to include two large stage video monitors to add to the mix, and what with the lights and sound, it was a great opportunity for our local garage bands to get on stage and play their music in as close to a real rock concert sense as they could imagine,” said executive director Tom Meyers of the Fort Lee Film Commission. The annual "battle"—open to all high school bands from Bergen County—offered hopefuls a winner-take-all top prize of $500

The Jack Alter Community Center was really rocking Friday night, when rockers and music fans turned out in force for Fort Lee’s annual Battle of the High School Bands sponsored by the Fort Lee Film Commission FLFC. The program began with Tom Meyers, executive director of FLFC, introducing fellow film commission members and the roles they would play throughout the night. Stacy D'Arc was one of the judges and MC for the entire show. She even demonstrated what it was like to be part of a "mosh pit" back in the day. “I was demonstrating ‘the pogo,’ a safer alternative to slam dancing which itself is an earlier incarnation of moshing,” D’Arc later said. “Pogoing occurs vertically, while moshing is from side to side, slamming into others. Here is a look at five things you should know about and/or might not want to miss this week:

Number one: The Fort Lee Planning Board meets Monday at 7:30 p.m. in borough Hall’s council chambers. The planning board’s agenda includes Michael Sourek of 3 Crescent Court/approving Block 1452, Lots 1.06, 1.07 as minor subdivision with no variances; a resolution on the master plan reexamination report of April, 2011 as prepared and amended by Phillips, Preiss and Grygiel; and a public hearing for James Koo and Soo Jin Koo for 2126 Jones Rd., Block 5452, Lot 2 as a minor subdivision with no variance.
