Fort Lee Assistant Superintendent Resigns

Keith Lockwood’s duties as Anti-Bullying Coordinator and Affirmative Action Officer will be taken over by Tammi Gil and Cheryl Balletto respectively.

The Fort Lee Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to accept the resignation effective Nov. 26, 2012, of Keith Lockwood from his positions as Assistant Superintendent, Anti-Bullying Coordinator and Affirmative Action Officer. The walk-in resolution was accompanied by two others the BOE approved at its regular business meeting appointing current human resources officer Tammi Gil Anti-Bullying Coordinator and business administrator Cheryl Balletto Affirmative Action Officer—both with no stipend—to replace Lockwood in the roles. The decision comes just two weeks after Lockwood, who was new to the district this year, was appointed to the two additional positions to replace Sharon Amato after she was appointed interim superintendent on …

This kind of reasoning is what I want to hear more of, I know we are out there, we just have to gel and over come some of the past! Shawn and Art keep it up! Reasonable expectations of 'transparency' (I prefer ''forthright explanations'', which is not done either, the BOE needs to define it's role and understand processes better) of what can be explained is what we need to accept. In that …   more ›

Fort Lee BOE Approves Contracts of Superintendent, Assistant

Steven Engravalle was officially approved as Superintendent through 2015, and Sharon Amato was approved through June 2013, with the issue of merit pay yet to be determined.

The Fort Lee Board of Education approved Steven Engravalle’s contract as Superintendent of Schools and Sharon Amato’s contract as Assistant Superintendent at its regular business meeting Monday. Executive County Superintendent of Schools Robert M. Gilmartin reviewed and approved both contracts, according to school officials. Engravalle’s contract, which calls for an annual salary of $167,500, runs through June 2015 and is retroactive to July 1. Amato, whose contract runs through the end June 2013, will earn an annual salary of $141,462. The school board voted 5 to 2 in late June to appoint Engravalle to the post for the next three years, pending county approval of the contract. At the same meeting, the board also appointed Amato Assistant …

Why was more than $100,000 cut for special needs services in the schools? It is bad enough that our kids with Autism are "stuck in a library". It isn't fair that they don't have a classroom to call their own. Its not fair for the teachers either. They can't even set up a area for themselves to teach effectively. No one tells the parents what the heck is going on. Believe me I will be attending …   more ›

School Board Could Appoint Engravalle Superintendent Tuesday

Appointment of Steven Engravalle as Superintendent and Sharon Amato as Assistant Superintendent are on the BOE’s agenda for Tuesday’s special meeting, which starts at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Fort Lee public school students, their parents and community members could learn Tuesday who will occupy the top two posts in the district when school re-opens in the fall. Appointment of Steven Engravalle as Superintendent of Schools at a salary of $167,500 and Sharon Amato as Assistant Superintendent of Schools at a salary of $141,462 are on the agenda for the Fort Lee Board of Education’s special public business meeting, potentially ending months of speculation dating back to last September as to who would be at the helm once Interim Superintendent Steven Engravalle’s interim status expires at the end of June. Earlier this month, the board announced that the search for a permanent superintendent was down to two finalists. If the board …

FLHS Students, Engravalle Appear on ‘Dr. Drew’ Show Monday

Fort Lee school administrator and seven FLHS students were interviewed Friday about bullying; the show aired Monday at 9 p.m. on HLN

Fort Lee’s Assistant Superintendent of Schools and several Fort Lee High School students appeared before a national TV audience Monday as guests on HLN’s Dr. Drew show with Dr. Drew Pinsky. The subject of the special report was bullying; the Fort Lee contingent was there to discuss New Jersey’s new anti-bullying law and the effect it's having in their school. A Dr. Drew producer and camera crew visited Fort Lee High School Friday morning to interview a panel of seven students chosen by their teachers and school administrators and to pre-interview Steven Engravalle, who is also the school district’s anti-bullying coordinator. Engravalle told Patch Friday morning that he was contacted by the producers of the show because, he was told, Fort …

Exactly. I am removed from grammar school many years but can recall a kid who bullied me along with others. His parents no doubt did not do the best job raising him and perhaps there was turmoil or lack of discipline in that home.   more ›
