Colorado Truck Driver Charged With Toll Evasion at GWB

Port Authority officials allege the driver had a sign that said “new trailer in transit” where a license plate should have been.

A Colorado truck driver was charged Saturday in connection with allegedly trying to evade tolls at the George Washington Bridge, officials said. The arrest was the third of its type within a 10-day period, after a Florida truck driver was charged on Oct. 10 and a Pennsylvania driver was charged Oct. 15, and the 67th such arrest this year, according to Port Authority officials. Port Authority Police Officer Michael Brennan was on patrol at the bridge’s upper level toll plaza at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday when he saw a 2013 Volvo tractor-trailer with no front license plate go through a toll lane, a Port Authority spokesman said. “[The driver had] a plastic sign on the rear of the trailer where a license plate should be located,” said Port …

Why don't they do a follow up for the public to inform them that all these truck drivers rig their license plates simply because the tolls are too high or they just don't have that kind of cash on them. They never do a proper follow up. I'm pretty sure they're not terrorists, but just can't afford the extortion fees crossing the river to get home.   more ›

After stopping the SUV, the officers noticed two large boxes on the rear passenger seats and asked the two men what was in them, Coleman said. “[They] initially said the boxes …

Port Authority officials allege the driver of an SUV had no license plates and no E-ZPass.

A Pennsylvania driver was charged Monday in connection with allegedly attempting to evade tolls at the George Washington Bridge, Port Authority officials said. Port Authority Police Officer Steve Pisciotta was stationed at the lower level toll plaza at about 12 p.m. Monday when he saw an SUV go through the E-ZPass lane with no front or rear license plates and a temporary tag affixed to the rear window of the vehicle, according to officials. Pisciotta determined that the driver also has no E-ZPass transponder in the SUV. “Officer Pisciotta stopped the vehicle and found that the temporary registration tag was forged and had an altered date on it,” said Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman. “The license plates for the vehicle were found in …

Florida Truck Driver Charged at GWB With Toll Evasion

Port Authority officials allege the driver “defaced” his license plate in an alleged attempt to skirt the toll at the George Washington Bridge.

A Florida truck driver was charged Wednesday in connection with allegedly trying to evade tolls at the George Washington Bridge, Port Authority officials said. Port Authority police officer Christopher Terranova was stationed at the main toll plaza of the bridge’s upper level at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, when he noticed a Peterbuilt truck with a license plate that had allegedly been altered, officials said. The truck’s actual Florida plate was ‘657 1Cl’ but had been changed to ‘657 1CT.’ In other words, the ‘I’ had been changed to a ‘T,’ said Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman. “When the truck driver was pulled over, he told our officers that he just drove the entire length of the NJ Turnpike without paying any tolls and intended to evade …
