School to Start ‘As Late As Possible,’ District Seeks Feedback on Shorter Break
The 2012-2013 school calendar approved Monday includes a shortened February break, but school officials want to know if stakeholders prefer that the April break be shortened instead.
The Fort Lee School district announced this week that the 2012-2013 school year is going to start “as late as possible” in order to accommodate construction work during the summer months—the result of Fort Lee voters approving the school board’s $30.2 million referendum to upgrade the district’s ailing infrastructure in January—and school officials are seeking feedback from stakeholders as to when they would like to see that time made up. “We must shorten one of the breaks historically included in the annual school calendar,” officials said in a statement posted on the school district’s website. I've went skiing during Winter break with my kids, and I'm pretty sure that overall with lodging and transportation, + location, the prices are similar. Also, there is the fact that not everyone skis or snowboards, so they don't need February break, but they go on vacation during Spring break. Spring break can be a vacation for anyone while February break is only useful to the people who ski.   more ›
