New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015.
The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. We will work to deliver good, beautiful football to the fans in New York,” said Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano. “We are very happy and honored to have the Yankees as partners.” Yankees…

"The nightmare is not over for many affected by Sandy," says Ridgewood resident Frank Del Vecchio. The Fairview police chief will be running from Moonachie to the Jersey Shore to raise funds and awareness.
Seven months after Super Storm Sandy's winds ripped homes from their foundations, dunked rollercoasters into the Atlantic, and left scores facing a harrowing road to rebuilding, there's a fear the victims will be forgotten. It hasn't escaped Frank Del Vecchio's memory. The Ridgewood resident and Fairview police chief is strapping on his running shoes for perhaps his most ambitious excursion yet – he'll be running 106 miles non-stop from flood-scarred Moonachie to Staten Island and then down the Jersey Shore to aid victims. "Right after Sandy hit, I had a conversation with the mayor of Little Ferry (Mauro Raguseo) and he told me how devastated the town was and how a lot of people were helping," Del Vecchio said. "But then he said something …

Goodson was transported to Saint Claire’s Hospital in nearby Boonton and eventually charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun, and possession of a hollow-point bullet, according to ESPN. Entrepreneur says the NFL-registered league will be open to first graders through adults.
A local entrepreneur has started a new league that he says will help fill a void in the Bergen County sports scene. Carl Susini, of Mahwah, was a coach in the township's Youth Football League for eight years before serving as president of the Bergen Passaic Youth Football League. Though Susini and his wife could not have any children, he says the impact youth sports had on him as a child prompted him to become involved in the existing programs in the township, and create something new. “I remember the experience I got,” he said. “It was not only educational, I learned things that were really life-changing. I want to be able to help give kids that.” In 2010, Susini founded Youth Sports World, a sports promotion and marketing company that …

Don Bosco pulled ahead and away from Bergen County in the third quarter to win their second consecutive county title.
The Don Bosco Ironmen outscored the Bergen Catholic Crusaders 5-1 in the third quarter of the finals in the Bergen County Lacrosse Tournament. That scoring outburst made all the difference and propelled the Ironmen to a 10-6 victory and their second straight Bergen County championship. The Ironmen had a rough go of it in the first half. Bergen Catholic goalie Matt Pedrick was on point early on and held the Ironmen to just three first-half goals. “They came out playing hard. We were struggling with our shots and their goalie played really well," said Don Bosco captain Teddy Sisco-Tolomeo. Don Bosco looked like a different team in the second half. They came out very aggressive, snatched control of the game and never looked back. "In the …

Goalkeeper Aleks Gogic signed a two-year deal with the Premier League's Reading Football Club, paving the way for a professional debut in August.
Aleks Gogic, a 17-year-old former Fort Lee student, signed an English Premier League contract this month with the Reading Football Club after a scout noticed his talent at a New Jersey goalkeeping camp last summer. Fort Lee High School only had Gogic at goalkeeper for two games, the first a shutout overtime victory against Tenafly, as the star made the decision to spend his time playing with the New York Red Bulls academy team, a player development program affiliated with the American pro club. Gogic signed up for a course in goalkeeping with Glan Letheren, a retired Premier League goalkeeper who played professionally for 20 years before becoming a coach.
