Kumon Math and Reading Center is a large and international after school tutoring program. Kumon works with kids onMore reading from phonics through advanced comprehension, and math from counting to advanced subjects like calculus. It also has a program for kids ages 3-5 called Kumon Junior that concentrates on learning fundamentals, as well as Kumon Honor Roll, which works with kids who are beyond their grade level.  Kumon was founded in 1955 by Teiko Kumon and was first brought to the United States in 1974.

One of four elementary schools in the Fort Lee School District, School No. 1 is the largest in terms of enrollment.More It is also the closest of the four to downtown Fort Lee, and its library serves as the location of the Fort Lee Board of Education's bi-monthly regular meetings.

Traditional elementary curriculum at the school is enhanced by a reading program for grades K through 2, including reading levels and small group instruction, a "writer's workbook" for all students first grade and above and a reader's workshop for grades 3 through 6. Underlying the school's philosophy in these areas is a belief that writing is the key to critical thinking, and the ability to read is the foundation of all learning.

Additional activities include assemblies and concerts, "hands on" science, bilingual classes, talent shows and dances. The school's stated motto is "Respect and Responsibility," and it is particularly notable for its active PTA.

The Fort Lee Public Library is located in the Henry Hoebel Building, just across Main Street from Borough Hall. EasilyMore accessible by public transportation with a bus stop conveniently located directly in front of the building, the library also has a large parking lot around back. Inside the two-story structure, patrons will find an exceptionally quiet and comfortable space for reading, research, studying or taking advantage of the library's free WiFi or desktop computers. Comfortable reading chairs, no shortage of cubicles and work tables - some complete with table lamps - and a friendly, helpful staff make a visit to the library a pleasant experience for anyone. On the second level are additional stacks of books, plenty of windows emitting ample daylight and an excellent view of Fort Lee in four directions. Other features include a young adult corner, an adult reading room, adult literacy aids, a conference room and a large community bulletin board. The basement level serves as a media room with periodicals and newspapers, videos, DVDs and a media reference desk as well as a small exhibition space where local artists and photographers can showcase their work. The library also hosts film screenings, author talks and other public events. Book drops are located near the front and rear entrances.
