New Synagogue of Fort Lee
Established in 1993, the New Synagogue of Fort Lee is housed in a modern-looking building with stained glass windows on Center Ave. As the name implies, it is one of the newest synagogues in the area and, as such, is in transition as it grows from its humble beginnings as a group of 50 families that banded together to form it. The New Synagogue is home to a Hebrew school and a preschool for ages 3 to 4. It also offers adult education programs. The New Synagogue's mission statement says in part, "The purpose of the New Synagogue of Fort Lee is to serve as a foundation of Jewish life in Fort Lee and surrounding communities." It offers a full program of cultural and social activities, including groups such as Minyan, a sisterhood, a men's club and Young Judea. Weekly services are Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 9am. The synagogue continues to operate under of the spiritual guidance of founder Rabbi Meir M. Berger. The synagogue's social hall is available to rent.
