Fort Lee Chamber To Hold Ironman Triathlon Dinner

The all-you-can-eat pasta dinner is for volunteers, athletes, sponsors and spectators and takes place at the Assembly Steak House in Englewood Cliffs on Aug. 8.

The Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce is joining forces with the Assembly Steak House in Englewood Cliffs to support the upcoming 2012 Ironman U.S. Championship.

The Chamber is hosting an all-you-can-eat pasta buffet dinner Wednesday, Aug. 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. for Ironman athletes, event sponsors, volunteers and even spectators at the Assembly—itself one of the Chamber’s sponsors—located at 495 Sylvan Ave.

Among those in the international field of athletes competing in the Ironman on Aug. 11 are North Jersey residents Beth O’Connor of Oakland, Bill Frost of Ridgewood, Thomas DiVincent of Franklin Lakes, Guy Dess of Tenafly, Jeffrey Lathrop of Old Tappan, Katie Feehan of Wykoff, Kevin Smyth of Old Tappan and Fort Lee resident Maxim Almenas, NorthJersey.com reported.

Chamber member Almenas of TriTrekker.com is competing in the triathlon in support of Athletes to End Alzheimer's and is holding a fundraiser of his own on Friday Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. at in Fort Lee, according to the Chamber. His goal is to raise $2,500 for the charity, according to the NorthJersey.com report.

“I’ve tried not to put to much pressure on myself because it is only my third triathlon of any kind and I’ve only been training six months when others have been preparing a couple of years,” Almenas is quoted as saying. “But I watched the NYC triathlon last year and caught the bug, especially since I happen to love all three aspects of the sport individually.”

The price for the Chamber’s dinner at the Assembly on Aug. 8 is $15 in advance through the Chamber’s PayPal portal or $20 at the door.

The buffet will included an array of pastas and sauces, salad, bread and soft drinks. And a cash bar is also available, according to the Chamber.

People who attend the event will have the opportunity to meet Ironman athletes, sponsors and the Chamber’s Ironman committee.

The Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce the first-ever Ironman competition taking place in the New York City/New Jersey metropolitan area with an complete with bleachers, vendors, food and a DJ on Bruce Reynolds Boulevard and Hudson Terrace.

The Chamber is still accepting volunteers to help set up, man and take down the station on race day—Aug. 11.
