Talk With Tracy: What a celebration!

100 years and millions of smiles!

Yesterday, was the 100th  Birthday Party for School 4! And what an event it was! I want to share some of the joy of that day, just a glimpse of how special it was. The dedication was heartfelt and sentimental, the statue, perfect and the people spectacular! Its not too often I get to volunteer at day event, but my daughter was at school and I had the chance. The Committee for this event was there early, preparing all the different tasks for the volunteers to do, cleaning the popcorn machine, organizing the day and formalizing logistics. I picked up my nametag and kind of strolled into to the school to see what was going on. Inside the doors, the energy was more akin to a busy beehive,  500 plus students walking single file into the multi-purpose room, a dozen mom-volunteers opening, filling, closing popcorn bags, fulfilling classroom orders; and another few moms smiling through the heat while running popcorn filled bins up and down the stairs.  We filled those 500 plus bags while the time capsule was being created in an assembly, the outdoor dedication area was being prepped, and playground carnival was being set up and I am sure a lot more. When time capsule was complete, the children began going outside to the dedication area; more volunteers began bring out the almost six-hundred cupcakes that were going to be assembled into a 100 in front of the school on tables. The volunteers had those cupcakes in formation in just a few minutes, and then they we handed out even faster! Each child was given a cupcake as they went back to their classrooms. Then I went into my son's classroom and be the 'lunch aide'; we played Hangman and Seven-Up, I needed a refresher course of the games and the kids were happy to instruct me! The kids were lots of fun, very talkative and very excited for what they saw in the playground! They saw big, colorful bounce-houses, slides, obstacle course, and more! A row of carnival games! His teacher cam back and the kids lined up to go to the playground. That was the end of my stay; I had a meeting and had to pick up my daughter. I walked back to my car slowly, watching the kids in the carnival. What a great time, what a great day! I was in awe of all the work that went into the day, and grateful to all of those who dreamed it, planned it and participated in it. There were smiles, joy and laughter everywhere you looked, a rare day, a wonderful day. To those who made it happen: It was really something to be proud of and please know, it was very much appreciated. So, Happy 100th Birthday to School 4 and here is a thankful and joyful, electronic high-five to all of you who made it happen!
