Fort Lee Coalition for the Arts Calls Fort Lee Citizens to Emergency Meeting to Support the Fort Lee High School Academy for the Performing Arts

Fort Lee Coalition for the Arts to meet May 25th at 7:30 PM at the Fort Lee Museum (1588 Palisade Avenue)

The Fort Lee Coalition for the Arts will hold an emergency meeting this Wednesday evening, May 25th, at 7:30 pm at the Fort Lee Museum at 1588 Palisade Avenue. The meeting will center on ideas to create fundraisers to support the Fort Lee High School Academy for the Performing Arts.

The Fort Lee Board of Education and School Superintendent recently outlined cuts to the program due to reductions in state aid. The Coalition for the Arts spoke at the past two BOE meetings and intends to address this issue at future BOE meetings. The Coalition for the Arts requests that the Fort Lee BOE and Superintendent reach out to community organizations such as the Coalition so possible financial support can be found to offset these cuts to arts programs for our students. Many High School sports programs have booster clubs that raise funds and awareness. What the Coalition seeks to do is serve in a similar fashion to support the APA program at the High School.

The first fundraiser for the APA program will be on July 1st. The Fort Lee Film Commision, a member of the Fort Lee Coaliton for the Arts, will sponsor a birthday luncheon in the memory of the first woman filmmaker in cinema history, Alice Guy Blache. All proceeds from this luncheon will go to both the APA program at Fort Lee High School and the annual Jersey Filmmakers of Tomorrow Bergen County High School Student Film Fesitval. Tickets are $35 and include a luncheon and a screening of two of Alice Guy Blache's short Solax Films. Guest speakers at the luncheon will include County Executive Kathleen A. Donovan and Garden State Film Festival Executive Director Diane Raver. For ticket info call the Film Commisison at (201) 693-2763 or visit www.fortleefilm.org.  RSVP by June 27.
