Fort Lee Farmers Market Opens Sunday With Familiar, New Vendors

This year's market will bring back some familiar vendors but also feature some new ones. Also Sunday, historic jitney tours of Fort Lee will be offered to market patrons or anyone who stops by the Fort Lee Community Center.

The annual Fort Lee Farmers’ Market opens Sunday at the ’s plaza area at 1355 Inwood Terrace and continues every Sunday thereafter from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through the last Sunday in October.

As of Wednesday, the list of participating vendors at this year’s market, according to Tom Meyers of the Fort Lee Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, is as follows:

  • Vesco Foods, offering olives, olive oil, marinated mushrooms and sundried tomatoes
  • Cocoamains LLC, offering French pastry and other baked goods
  • , offering (what else?) cookies!

“We may add vendors as the season progresses, but I am quite happy with the variety and the mix of old and new, and the anchor of Stone Pointe Farms always brings our market a crowd of customers who return each week,” Meyers said of the lineup vendors.

In conjunction with the opening of the farmers market Sunday, the Fort Lee Film Commission, Fort Lee Historic Committee and the Fort Lee Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs will be providing a “Fort Lee Historic Jitney Tour” starting at the community center.

Meyers said the tour has garnered a lot of interest in the past, but that this year will be a little different because of Fort Lee’s yearlong celebration of the in Fort Lee.

“The aspect of honoring Universal Studios, born in Fort Lee a century ago, is one that will add interest to the tour,” Meyers said, adding that an exhibit at the dedicated to Universal’s centennial will be opening soon.

In addition, the museum will be paying tribute to another cinema pioneer who started out in Fort Lee.

“On July 1, we will honor the founder of Solax Studio in Fort Lee, , on her birthday,” Meyers said. “And in celebration of the centennial of her studio in Fort Lee, we will unveil a new marker at her graveside in Bergen County.”

That event will be followed by a reception at the museum on Sunday, July 1.

The historic jitney tour, which is free to the public, is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. You can sign up for the tour from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Film Commission’s table at the farmers’ market.
