Cooling Centers Offer Relief From 100 Degree Heat

Several cooling centers have been set up around the county Friday to provide relief to residents as temperatures are expected to climb to 100 degrees.

Several cooling centers have been set up around Bergen County Friday, as temperatures are expected to reach as high as 100 degrees.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for the Bergen County area. A statement from the county recommends residents stay indoors between the hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the sun is at its strongest and heat stroke or sunburns are most likely to occur and reminds all to never leave pets or children in parked vehicles.

The following are designated cooling centers around the county:

County Administration Building, Multi-Purpose Room, first floor, One Bergen County Plaza – 201-336-7300; Hours – 8;30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Rutherford Senior Center, 55 Kip Center, Rutherford, 201-460-1600. Hours – 8:30 a.m. to 4 pm. This center will also be open on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The following cooling centers will be open through Friday, from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. as needed:

Northwest Bergen Multipurpose Senior Activity Center, 46-50 Center St., Midland Park, NJ, 201-445-5690.

Bergenfield Senior Center, 239 Murray Hill Terrace, Bergenfield, 201-387-7212

Southwest Bergen Multipurpose Senior Activity Center, 147 Hackensack St., East Rutherford, 201-935-8920.
