Girls Tennis Team Looks to Continue Success.

Season Preview: Lady Bridgemen tennis

The Fort Lee Lady Bridgemen are out to defend their league championship this season, and the pieces seem to be in place to do so.

Fort Lee went undefeated in the league last year and was a serious force to be reckoned with. Things are looking up for this season as well.

Senior Emilia Lesckowicz is playing first singles, senior Natalie Shapnik will be playing second singles, and senior Jelena Sutovic will be playing third singles.

Despite the team losing two of their top players, head coach Sheri Steckler is feeling as good as ever about what is yet to come for this team.

“We’re better than last season, so being that the league is the same as it was last year, I think we’ll perform as well as we did last year, if not better, “ she said.

Junior Kelly Mayid will be playing with junior Christine Lee for second doubles, while Debra Lee, a very talented freshman, will be playing with junior Ann Stillman.

The senior captains are very excited about the possibilities and the team has a simple yet effective philosophy.

“Do your best, give it your all,” said Lesckowicz.

Shapnik is feeling good about the defense of the team’s league championship.

“We’re a good team," she said. "We lost two of our seniors, but I feel like this season we have another shot at defending our title.”

The team is anxious to hit the court for the season opener and defend the league title that they worked so hard for all of last season. Between the positive attitude and talent on the team, the Lady Bridgemen are a confident group

“I think this year out of all my four years playing will be our best year because we’re all prepared and determined to win," said Sutovic. "I think we’re pretty strong. We support each other a lot and we encourage each other to do the best we can. And I think that’s very important in a tennis team.”
