Fort Lee Girls Recreation Basketball Opens Season This Week

The league of about 270 girls will hold its opening ceremonies Tuesday, complete with giveaways and the first four games of the year.

The Fort Lee Girls Basketball League tips off another season this week with its annual opening night festivities.

League President Michael Klein said it’s the seventh consecutive year that he’s seen an increase in registration for the league, with nearly 270 girls signed up to play this year.

He said the opening ceremony, which takes place Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Lewis F. Cole Middle School gym, would last about 45 minutes, followed by the season’s first four games—two at the 3rd/4th grade level and two 5th/6th grade games.

“Mayor Sokolich will be speaking as well as doing the opening tip off, as he has done for the past several years,” Klein said. “All 25 teams, [recreation and travel], will be announced, as well as their sponsors.”

Klein said festivities would also include the introduction of coaches and more.
