Fort Lee Girls Recreation Basketball Ends With a Nail-Biting Game

Pat D'Amico Contractors Win 7th & 8th Grade Championship With a Perfect 13 - 0 Record.

The #1 Seeded Pat D'Amico Contractors, dressed in maroon, took on the #2 Seeded Silly Rabbits, dressed in purple, in what proved to be an exciting, well played championship game. 

With Mayor Mark Sokolich tossing the opening tip, the game went back and forth with no team taking more than a 4 point lead. Faith Diaz, a 7th grader for maroon, led the way with a team high of 15 points. Diaz made her last clutch five shots in a row with under 2 minutes to go in the game.

Eighth grader, Kami Mattesich, chipped in with 7 points, fouling out late in the 3rd quarter. Seventh grader, Maria Romero, scored all 5 of her points for maroon in the second quarter.

High scorer was Sarah Diaz with 16 points for purple, fouling out with 58 seconds to go in the game, ending her Rec basketball career. Seventh grader Danielle Wertheim scored 7 points for the Silly Rabbits.

With the score 33-31 maroon, eighth grader Savannah Gathers got fouled with .06 seconds to go in the game. Missing her first shot, she sank the second to cut the lead to 33-32. Maroon inbounded the ball to Faith Diaz to end the game giving Pat D'Amico Contractors a perfect 13-0 record for the season.

The League recognizes Pat D'Amico Coaches, Mario Mattesich and Emma Diaz on a game well played in front of a packed house. Greg Vucci and "Drive By" Rey Diaz, coached the Silly Rabbits ended the season on a high note as well.

The trophy ceremony took place immediately following the game. All league participants received a trophy with D'Amico Contractors receiving an additional championship trophy. 

Eighth grade retiring coaches, Mario Mattesich, Ed Aversa, Greg Yee, Frank McKenna, and Leah Rosa, received plaques of special recognition. Community service awards were presented to Danielle Elmers, Nina Padin, Nick Danciu, Amanda Maldonardo, and Antonio DiMeglio.
