Coach's Report: Fort Lee Indoor Track Team Does Well at NJ State Relay Championship

Fort Lee track coach Ed Garrison reports on the team's latest meet.

Although the Fort Lee Boys and Girls Indoor Track Team did not win any medals at the NJSIAA Group II State Relay Championship Meet Sunday at the Bennett Center in Toms River, there were still many impressive performances. Over 45 teams competed in the event.

The highlight of the day was a ninth place finish by the girls 3200-meter relay team with an overall time of 10:49.66. The team was composed of senior Nancie Sophias (2:28.4); sophomore Christina Ramirez (2:42.9); freshman Melanie Plattner (2:43.5) and freshman Victoria Tam (2:54.8). The girls distance medley relay lead off the meet by placing 12th with a time of 14:20.28. The team was composed of sophomore Julie Lau, who ran the 1200-meter leg (4:32.1); freshman Ashley Jenq, who ran the 400-meter leg (1:09.9); senior Nancie Sophias, who ran the 800-meter leg (2:32.1) and sophomore Christina Ramirez, who ran the 1600-meter leg (6:06.18).

For the boys, the distance medley relay placed 12th with a time of 11:57.05. The team was composed of junior Jenya Dyagilev, who ran the 1200 meters (3:32.9); junior Jonathan Spenst, who ran the 400 meters (56.9); junior Joe Kim, who ran the 800 meters (2:15.5) and junior YuYu Fahmy, who ran the 1600 meters (4:51.75).
