One thing is certain when it comes to the make up of the next year: there will be at least two new board members.
In Fort Lee, six candidates are running for three seats on the school board, according to information released Wednesday by the Bergen County Clerk, and only one of them, John Bang, is an incumbent.
With Tuesday’s deadline for filing for school board candidacy having come and gone, Fort Lee’s list of candidates for the three, three-year terms on the school board is as follows:
- John Bang (Incumbent)
- Holly Morell
- David Sarnoff
- Esther Han Silver
- Tracy Mattei
- Steve Byoun
Missing from that list are current member Angela Napolitano and current board vice president Linda McCue.
School board president Arthur Levine said he wasn’t surprised to learn that McCue and Napolitano are not running this year, although he never asked them.
Levine also said of the two, “They served a long time, and they’ve done a great job.”
“There are going to be two members who are going to be very difficult to replace,” Levine told Patch. “They’re both longtime residents in town, dedicated board members who really served their community admirably, and they’re going to be sorely missed.”
Among the challengers, Sarnoff way back in late January, before the BOE , while Mattei is the only candidate in the field to have run in last year’s election, in what turned out to be a close election, also among six candidates.
Patch will have ongoing coverage and provide profiles of all willing candidates in the months leading up to the election in November.
