School Construction Projects Humming Along

Board on Monday night approved bids to replace the roof at School 3 and the renovation of the high school gym & auditorium.

The Fort Lee school board on Monday approved a pair of bids on projects related to the ongoing, multi-million modernization of the district's seven schools.

Trustees voted to approve bids on the renovation of the high school gymnasium and auditorium ($518,000), as well as the roof at School #3 ($225K), which was damaged during Super Storm Sandy. Those items are being paid out of the capital outlay fund, not the $30 million school referendum passed by voters in Jan. 2012.

According to Business Administrator Cheryl Balletto, nearly half a dozen major construction projects are expected to be completed over the summer.

They include the creation of four high school science labs, the replacement of windows at School #1 and School #3, HVAC Phase I work, Phase I of the roof replacement at School #1, and prep work for the addition at the middle school.

Work done last summer included boiler repairs, new HVAC units, a litany of masonry repairs, science labs and new classrooms at various buildings.

Construction is expected to last three years on the bond referendum. Thus far, the referendum projects all remain under budget, Balletto said.
