School Board to Interview Superintendent Candidates Next Week

The Fort Lee Board of Education will hold two special work sessions next week, the purpose of which is to interview candidates identified by a superintendent search firm hired earlier this year. The meetings are not open to the public.

The is holding two special private work sessions next week to interview superintendent candidates.

Although the special meetings on Wednesday and Thursday technically begin as public work sessions, school board president Arthur Levine said the board is expected to adjourn immediately into private session.

“What happens is every meeting has to open up in public, and then we immediately go into private,” Levine said. “We’ll open up, and then close right away.”

At the school board’s , Rich Marasco of Leadership Advantage, which , presented the BOE with documents, including conducted earlier this year, saying the firm spoke with more than 20 people “who expressed some interest in the position.”

“We were able to get applications from 13 individuals, and we’re providing to you tonight finals on 11 of those individuals, which we ask the board to consider,” Marasco said at the time.

While Levine couldn’t confirm that the board would be interviewing 11 candidates during the two private sessions next week, he did say that all of the people the BOE will interview are among those presented by Leadership Advantage.

“They identified a pool, and we selected who we’re going to interview,” Levine said. “We’re just happy to get the process underway.”

No official action will be taken during the special private work sessions, and the board will not return for public sessions, according to school officials.
