School Official Faces Charges Related to 'Vulgar Text Messages'

School Board Trustee Carmelo Luppino Jr. faces disorderly conduct and harassment charges filed by the Fort Lee Police Department.

Luppino, who is seeking reelection this fall, was arrested in April after he called 911 and reported falsely that someone was being held hostage, according to a report on northjersey.com.

Another complaint was filed that same day, stating Luppino sent “vulgar text messages” to a woman; the name of the victim was redacted from court files, the news report said.

Fort Lee officials sent the case to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, which adjusted one charge from raising false public alarm to creating a dangerous situation, and then sent it to the Englewood Cliffs municipal court.
