Fort Lee Native Wins NJ R&D Merit Scholar Award

Elizaveta Kulko recognized for academic achievements, interest in science and mathematics.

The New Jersey Research and Development Council named Fort Lee's Elizaveta Kulko, as a merit scholar for the current school year.

Kulko, a Bergen Community College student with a focus in natural science and math, was one of 16 community college students to receive the award from the non-profit.

To qualify, students must be a STEM (science, tech, engineering or math) major, have a 3.5 GPA or greater, participate in extracurriculars, have financial needs and post-graduation career goals, the organization said in a press release.

“This class of applicants impressed me with their poise, determination and drive,” said Christos Christodoulatos, scholarship committee member and Vice-Provost of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Stevens Institute of Technology. “It is very clear to us these deserving students will continue to be successful as they pursue their academic goals.”

In August, the award recipients will attend a luncheon at a council member's research facility. They'll have the opportunity to meet "prominent New Jersey-based researchers and innovators in science, technology, engineering and math," the non-profit said. Award winners will also attend two panel discussions focusing on STEM during the visit.
