Fort Lee Board of Education Calls for Special Meeting Monday

The school board announced the public meeting Wednesday.

The Fort Lee school board gave formal notice Wednesday that it would hold special meetings Monday.

Officials did not disclose the purpose of the meeting, but confirmed that one "special private work session" and one "special public business meeting" would be held—the former of which would be closed to the public for discussion of personnel issues.

The private session is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and the public session is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start time in Fort Lee High School's second floor media center.

The Fort Lee Board of Education has been scurrying over several months to address critical personnel gaps within the district.

Open positions at superintendent and high school principal, in particular, have been chronic headaches for board trustees following the resignation of Steven Engravalle in March and the transfer of High School Principal Priscilla Church in June.

The board earlier this month approved Sharon Amato to serve as the district's interim superintendent. Prior to the board's action, Amato had been serving as assistant superintendent.

With only weeks before the beginning of the 2013-14 school year, the BOE has yet to appoint a high school principal.

Following the Aug. 19 meeting, the board has a public meeting scheduled for Aug. 26 at 8 p.m.
