This past weekend the Fort Lee High School Cheerleaders performed at the Reach the Beach National Competition in Ocean City, Maryland with over 250 other teams from around the country.
Fort Lee received Honorable Mention in the Small Varsity Intermediate Division beating out other teams. The judges praised Fort Lee Cheerleaders for their dance synchronization and great energy.
Coach Jacky Corcoran said this whole experience has been surreal as a first year coach. "All of our hard work paid off and I could not be happier with the result," she said.
Coach Nikki Luppino said the girls really came together and performed flawlessly after only a few weeks of practice. "We are so proud of the work that they have put in," she said.
According to both coaches, the senior girls had tears coming down their faces as they walked off the stage.
Jessie Cohen, three-year varsity cheerleader, said that as a senior captain she could not have had a better experience at Nationals.
"I have made such close bonds with both coaches," she said. Adding that this has created an amazing end to her high school cheerleading career.
Hailey Klein, four-year varsity cheerleader, said that she is incredibly proud of the squad.
"We really pulled it together when we stepped onto the mat," she said. Klein said that she is so grateful for the support system that has helped them get through some rough patches. "Words cannot describe how glad I am to call these girls my teammates," she said.
Both Corchoran and Luppino said that they are so happy to end this season on a positive note and are looking forward to building the team for next year.
The coaches and the team would like the thank the school administration, parents, and the Booster Club for supporting them and helping them to get to the Nationals.
