Chamber Basketball Tourney to Raise Funds for Students

The Greater Fort Lee Chamber of Commerce hosts a basketball 3-on-3 fundraiser for the Academy of Finance.

Basketball players and fans will be given an opportunity to help out Fort Lee High School students participating in the Academy of Finance program on Saturday, March 19, when the hosts a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at Fort Lee High School. The fundraiser for the academy consists of teams comprised of students, local government officials, local police & fire departments, community business members, as well as some chamber members.

All of the proceeds will go to funding the Academy of Finance, Chamber of Commerce Program and Event Coordinator Margaret Maclay said.

“We saw this as a terrific opportunity to help keep the AOF program strong,” she said.

The Chamber of Commerce has never done this fundraiser before, but they hope to make it a yearly event because of their strong ties to the AOF program.

“Many of our board members and members are on the AOF Board of Directors and participate in the mentoring program for the Academy,” Maclay said.

The event's main sponsor is Southpole (Wicked Fashions Inc.), a local apparel company. Bank of New Jersey is the t-shirt and trophy sponsor. Supporting sponsors include Asap Title Agency, BNB Bank, Subway, Starbucks, Modell’s, Madonna Cemetery, Tutor Doctor, Bergen Chiropractic; Raffle Prizes-Liberty WNBA, The FACE Lazer Clinic, The Training Zone, Estee Ann Nail Salon and Little Charm Thai Kitchen.

“The cost is minimal thanks to the support of sponsors who are businesses and organizations in the local community,” Maclay said.

Why basketball?

“Everybody loves it. Watching or playing, cheering or refereeing, there is something for everybody,” Maclay said.

The Chamber is expecting a variety of teams making for a pototentially exciting competition.

“Some pretty fierce rivalries are already developing so we are anticipating some exciting games for the fans.” Maclay said.

The 3-on-3 games will be on Saturday, March 19 at Fort Lee High School.

Teams are $50.00 (Student Only Teams $25) and include:

  • 3-5 players
  • food/snack
  • t-shirt

Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. Games start at 10 a.m.
