Back in session, the state legislature moves on bills to protect the public

The following is a sampling of bills passed recently by the NJ State Senate and State Assembly, a brief description, and how your representatives, Senator Robert M. Gordon and Assemblywomen Joan M. Voss and Connie Wagner voted.

S2456 (9/26); A921 (10/25/10) – New Jersey Trade Secrets Act - Creates the “New Jersey Trade Secrets Act,” based on the “Uniform Trade Secrets Act” prepared by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, and sets forth the remedies that are available to the holder of a trade secret which has been misappropriated (Legislation passed in both houses.)

S1648 (9/26); A1098 (2/25/10) – Authorizes county colleges and county vocational school districts to establish green job certification programs. (Legislation passed in both houses.)

S2626 (9/26); A1491 (10/25/10) – Imposes certain bail restrictions and increases the minimum amount of bail for persons who are charged with contempt of a domestic violence restraining order. (Legislation passed in both houses.)

S1858 (9/26); A2806 (6/29) – Permits the conversion of high-performing nonpublic schools located in failing school district into charter schools. (Legislation passed in both houses.)

S1823 (9/26); A1471 (6/29) – Modernize the taxicab law by allowing a competitive process in the award of taxicab licenses by municipalities, and by increasing consumer protections, including increasing mandatory insurance coverage and requiring taxicab operators to undergo a state criminal history background check. (Legislation passed in both houses – Motion to accept the Governor’s conditional veto recommendations.)

S2928 (9/26) – Establishes Task Force on the Closure of State Developmental Centers. (Legislation passed in both houses – Motion to accept the Governor’s conditional veto recommendations.)

S397 (9/26); A1436 (5/9) – Provides that the owner or operator of a court reporting agency hold a certificate or registration granted by the State Board of Court Reporting and employ only court reporters certified by the board or temporary court reporters registered with the board (Legislation passed in both houses.)
