Viewfinder: Bidding Farewell to a Respected Neighbor

Nancy Merse was the first female mayor of Edgewater and had been very active in Fort Lee’s neighboring community for many years, serving on the school board and as a councilwoman from 1979 to 2002.

A mass was held for Merse at Church of the Holy Rosary on Undercliff Ave. in Edgewater after a funeral procession travelled from in Fort Lee. Merse was to be buried at Fort Lee’s .

According to Brennan, many area politicians, including many from Fort Lee, attended Merse’s funeral. Fort Lee Mayor and Council members acknowledged and lamented Merse’s passing at the governing body’s regular meeting last week.

Merse died last Thursday at Hackensack University Medical Center, according to an Edgewater View article. She was 79.
