NJ Will Lose One U.S. House Seat

Garden State goes from 13 to 12 House seats, Census shows.

New Jersey will lose one seat in the House of Representatives because other states had a faster population growth, U.S. Census officials announced Tuesday.

Although New Jersey remained as one of most densely populated states in the country, other states in the South and West grew faster, 2010 population data shows.  The state will go from 13 seats to 12 in the 2012 federal elections.

More specific local data will be released in February or early March, Census officials said. A bipartisan commission will work on redrawing the state's House districts.
