Business are breaking and the municipality turns a deaf ear. Parking is a major issue for the proprietors of our local retail and restaurant establishments. For the past few years the Fort Lee Republican Club has voiced this concern for many of the business owners who are in fear of retribution for coming out against the town's one party rule. Nonetheless, with the economy stressing our merchants many can no longer handle the financial burden of paying tickets for their patrons just so their customers can feel relaxed while eating or making a quick purchase. Why can't a person relax and have a meal between 4pm and midnight without worry of the meter? How come someone can't get 30min of free parking to pick up a pair of shoes and be on their way? Heck, even to throw the ball at some hoops at the Community Center after work for an hour or a 3rd on the spot pick up game making it two hours? All of these examples of being community friendly hurt our social network and business operations, because of the fear of another parking ticket. With the advent of 2013, I ask the Mayor and Council to reign in our cloaked Fort Lee Parking Authority and change the mandate of this elusive local govt. organization to protect our streets from becoming a NYC commuter parking lot, while allowing residents to use facilities like our Recreation Center (which has very limited free parking space), and people local and afar to shop and dine without worry of our local parking tax. www.fortleegop.org

As far as the Community Center goes, the parking lot problem is partially caused by those who shop at the stores across the street and want to avoid feeding the meters. As a result, folks who come to shop get free parking, while those who want to watch their kid play in their basketball game have to feed the meter on many occasions.
