Legislators Encourage County Residents to Seek Low-Interest Loans for 2010 Storm Damages

Small Business Administration recently made these loans available for storm damage recovery

District 38 state legislators Senator Bob Gordon and Assemblywomen Joan Voss and Connie Wagner are all encouraging residents of the county who experienced damage to their homes from the 2010 Nor’easter storms (between March 10 to March 17, 2010) to apply for low-interest loans recently made available through the Small Business Administration.

Homeowners and renters in Bergen County are eligible for loans up to $200,000 to repair damaged or destroyed real estate and up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.

"Flood damage can be devastating and costly.  Anyone in need of assistance for repairs should consider reaching out to the SBA to inquire about eligibility for this worthwhile low-interest loan program," said Gordon, of Fair Lawn.

"This is a great program to help homeowners get back on their feet again," said Wagner, of Paramus. "Given the difficult economic times, low interest loans of this type can be an enormous help for struggling homeowners."

Beginning June 17, SBA's customer service representatives are now on hand at two Disaster Loan Outreach Centers to answer questions about the disaster loan program, explain the process, issue and help individuals complete their applications.

The north Jersey center will be open until July 2, 2011 and the location and hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center is located at Woodland Park Municipal Building, 5 Brophy Lane, community room on 2nd floor, Woodland Park, NJ 07424.

Information can also be obtained online at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/if individuals and businesses are unable to visit the center. They may also obtain information on loan applications by calling the SBA's Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 (800-877-8339 for people with speech or hearing  disabilities), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET, or by sending an e-mail to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

In other news, a bill which allows municipalities to provide free or reduced fee beach badges to active military and NJ National Guard personnel of which Assemblywoman Wagner was a primary sponsor was signed into law earlier this week.
