Five Seek Fort Lee Council Seats This Year

Three Republicans will vie for the nomination to challenge two Democratic incumbents.

The Fort Lee Borough Clerk’s office released the Democratic and Republican candidates for the two seats up for grabs on the Fort Lee Borough Council in this year’s municipal election after Monday’s filing deadline.

Democratic incumbent Councilmen Joseph Cervieri, Jr. and Harvey Sohmer are running together, seeking re-election for three-year terms.

Thomas Bennett and Peter B. Campbell are running for Council together on the Republican ticket, and Republican Rossana Surace is running alone.

There are no unexpired terms on the Council, according to Borough Clerk Neil Grant.

The five candidates will be on their respective party tickets in the June 5 Primary Election.

Independent candidates have until June 5 at 4 p.m. to file petitions to run in the Nov. 6 General Election.
