Video: County Democrats Open New Party Office in Fort Lee

Dems commemorate opening of much roomier satellite building in a more central location; Patch speaks with some of them

The opening of the new Democratic headquarters at 185 Bridge Plaza North in Fort Lee was commemorated Wednesday night by familiar and fresh faces on the political scene in Bergen County. Democrats gathered not only to establish a new headquarters, but to reawaken their vision and unite their front.

Chairman Lou Stellato, who has been called an invigorating new force on the scene, introduced a diverse and enthusiastic team that included Democratic Chairwomann Kay Nest, State Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-37), State Assemblywomen Joan Voss (D-38) and Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-37), Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich and members of the Fort Lee Council, former Northvale mayor John Hogan, who is running for county clerk, Campaign Coordinator John Bang and several Korean-American dignitaries.

Sokolich kicked off the proceedings, announcing the opening of the new satellite building that is much roomier and in a far more central location than the previous one on Main Street.

"Unity is Victory" is the new party motto, and it is being taken very seriously, with everyone from Sen. Weinberg to County Coordinator Bang to Korean-American dignitary Andrew Kim, establishing the importance of the Asian community and vote in upcoming elections.

Huttle, who represents the 37th district, of which Fort Lee is now a part, said, "Fort Lee is at the crossroads of New Jersey," and will be the "heart and soul" of the district.

The theme of unity in diversity was echoed throughout the evening, as each politician stressed the importance of reaching out to the burgeoning Asian community in Bergen County.

"All of us have the same mission in mind," said Voss, who will be running for Freeholder in November.
