Celebrity Rabbi, Clinton-backed Congressman to Debate in Tenafly

Boteach, Pascrell to face off in first 9th district debate.

Two candidates vying for the redrawn 9th congressional district will meet in their first debate Sunday at a Tenafly temple.

Englewood Republican Rabbi Shumley Boteach, the author of “Kosher Sex” and former spiritual advisor to Michael Jackson, is challenging incumbent Democrat Bill Pascrell. Boteach has called for marriage counseling to be made tax deductible and is supported by casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.

Pascrell, who was endorsed by former President Bill Clinton, beat fellow Democrat Steve Rothman in a bitter primary battle for the redrawn district. A former Paterson mayor, Pascrell was first elected to congress in 1996.

Sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey Jewish Community Relations Council and The Jewish Standard of Teaneck, the debate will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Temple Sinai of Bergen County, One Engle Street.

Some choice Diane. Some choice. If you're going to vote for the lesser of two evils you have to work hard to define evil. And we're still left with some level of evil. YIKES!

Bet he'll be the first to complain if there is a pothole on his street. Let other's pay for it though. Spend without taxing. We want services but don't want to pay for them. What a bunch of hypocrites.

Why is it this story talks about the rabbi's background, but doesn't mention anything substantial about Pascrell? How is this a "celebrity rabbi" when 99% of the country has never heard of him?

That is what the press calls him and he embraces the moniker. Again he became famous or infamous by serving as a " spiritual advisor" to Michael Jackson.
