Bergen Freeholders Call for Port Authority Resignations

Freeholders are asking Chairman David Samson and NJ Commissioners to resign in light of the Bridgegate scandal, report says.

The Bergen County Freeholders are calling for the New Jersey Chairman of the Port Authority to step down in response to the Bridgegate scandal, NJ.com reported.

According to the report, the freeholders voted 6-1 Wednesday night for two resolutions that support the resignations of David Samson and the other Christie appointees at the bi-state agency.

Samson, a lawyer, did not respond to questions from the freeholders on how the lane closures of the George Washington Bridge came to be, the report said.

One freeholder, John Felice, voted against the resolutions, saying official investigations into the incident should be completed before the board passes a resolution, it said. Several other freeholders said they will be attending a Port Authority board meeting later this month to “demand answers” from Samson and other members, NJ.com reported.

Port Authority Commissioner Pat Schuber said he would consider the freeholders’ resolutions, but that it would not lead to Samson stepping down, the report said.
