Bergen County To Accept Donated Items To Aid Sandy Victims

Bergen County is accepting donations to help people who were either displaced or “severely impacted” by Hurricane Sandy, County Executive Kathleen Donovan announced Sunday.

According to Donovan, people are in particular need of things like new clothes—she specifically noted that used clothing should instead be dropped off at a Salvation Army location—new blankets, non-perishable food items, cleaning products, hand sanitizers, dog and cat food and gift cards with which people can buy other items they may need.

“Many of our generous, community-minded residents have been asking how they can help those in need in Bergen County,” Donovan said in a statement. “I want to thank them for their kindness and encourage all those who can help our fellow citizens to please do so.”

Donovan said the following drop-off have been put in place in order to make sure the items people donate reach those in need:

• Community Transportation at 178 Essex St. in Lodi
• Midland Park Senior Center at 46-50 Center St. in Midland Park
• St. Margaret of Cortona Church at 31 Chamberlain Ave. in Little Ferry
• The PSE&G Disaster Recovery Center at 100 Redneck Road in Moonachie, where there is a tent set up in the field next to UPS

Donations can be dropped off at any of these locations between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
